Reggae covers are a thing of beauty. Despite being a genre that's 60 years old there's something absolutely timeless about the Reggae and Rocksteady sound, bar a little improvement in production and recording, it always sounds current. The same couldn't necessarily be said of rock acts from the same era. In some ways then, when a track from another genre is given the reggae treatment it can become timeless in a new way. As i said, Reggae covers are a thing of beauty!

And none do it better and with more taste than Mungo's HiFi, legendary Glasgow Soundsystem, producers, label, promoters, and all round selectors! Gearing up for a new LP release with Marina P called "Soul Radio" they have dropped this video for the first single off the Reggae / Rocksteady focused plate which is a sublime cover of classic Smashing Pumpkins track "Soma" from 93's album Siamese Dreams. With Mungo's haunting and classy riddim and Marina's silky smooth vocal drifting through your soul throughout the track and keeping pleasure receptors firing its clear to see why this has already been touted by Rodigan and Steve Lamacq as a major feel good hit of the summer. I have no doubt this is going to be a classic. Check it out below :
